Its no hassle to deal with meta data at all. If you try to send a
file with it, it gets stripped by the internet if its not handled
properly. and yes it is a huge hassle.

It's such a hassle to developers (which need to strip files of
metadata before transferring to another filesystem or computer) and
users (who send files that receivers can't open). It is just simpler
like it is now for file interchange.
Is it such a hassle to keep file extensions?
