The problem here clearly is that
http://www.PetitionOnline.com use a
very bad system.
They basically do an "opt-out" system, that is they assume anybody
signing the petition is doing it so rightfully, and you yourself have
to take care that nobody abuses it. Bad, naiv, and worse: dangerous
attitude. It is a bit simpler to sign, though. That's all "positive"
I can see.
The proper way would be like mailing list subscribg usually works:
you get a confirmation mail, and only if you reply to that, it will
add you to the list. Drawback is that it is a bit more work to sign,
and of course you always have to give your email address.
But even with this approach, you only verify the email address, not
the name of the owner. This is exactly the reason why most companies
(outside of the IT business at least) only listen (if at all) to
written, hand signed petitions. If you really want to see Apple move
a bit, maybe you can do it by collecting *real* signatures, but that
will be very hard, and I doubt you'll get many signatures...
