That piece of this argument should be treated separately.
I've never understood why this idea hasn't become mainstream. A friend
of mine worked at Acorn Computer a long time ago and he mentioned that
they had some system built on top of RiscOS where your desktop would
travel with you. If people have played with Squeek they have seen it too.
In my work situation over the years, I've had machines with the same OS
that I had to switch to and from. What I wouldn't have given to
"freeze-dry" my complete environment, transfer it in some form to
another machine and continue working somewhere else as if I'd never
stopped the original session... This I would consider a "killer-app" for
an OS builder like Apple.
It would be a digital lifestyle on steroids.
