I totally agree with you. Linux has had this feature for a long time
(after all, it did
start out as a terminal emulation program). In Linux you have a
configurable
number of virtual consoles (text based). The X server can be configured
to run
on any number of these consoles. With a simple key combo you can switch
between any number of x sessions, each logged in as a different user. I
think
I've used it once (just to try it out). I'll admit I often use a single
X session running
on one console and switch to text-based consoles where I'm logged in as
root,
but overall there are many other areas where Apple could/should spend
resources
instead of playing a game of one-upmanship with M$. If your XP-using
associates
hold it up in your face remind them it has been in Linux for some time.
Furthermore
remind them that the only OS producing company among many (IBM, Digital,
Apple,
MS, and a long list of has-beens) that still produces a widely used non
standard
(or sub standard) non-Posix OS is the one trying to sell a "32 bit
Extension to a 16 bit
Graphical Shell of an 8 bit Operating System originally coded for a 4
bit Processor
by a 2 bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition." And if any M$
Certified
Idiots chime in that windoze is Posix-compliant I will slap you soundly
(as soundly
as the idiots who believe NT C2 certification).
M$ will be obsolete in my lifetime. I promise. I'm 42.
