Actually, the tense in your message is wrong--the book is currently being written and edited, and there should be bound books at the end of September. (Final chapters go to the publisher on Friday.)

The new book contains some of the introductory material on the basics of what is now Mac OS X, but the rest is new both in content and in format, although the chapter headings are much the same. The focus is on getting things done (implementing documents, for example), and almost all of the code samples are in both Java and Objective-C. In addition, while Cocoa is the primary framework dealt with, Carbon is also covered. This means that if you're interested in doing something with events or documents or whatever, you should be able to get a sense of Cocoa, Carbon, Java, Objective-C, and C++ and then make an informed decision on how to do what you want to do. Also, putting all of them in the same place should be helpful to people who are doing conversions and have to read legacy code as well as write new code. That, at least, is the idea.

I've tried to make sure things like toolbars and drawers are in (since everyone wants them in their apps), and CVS/SCM has a chapter, along with HID Manager, Apple Help, services, etc.

On another subject, there was a question about Modern Syntax in Rhapsody. It was an Apple project that did not make it into Rhapsody (which itself didn't make it into the real world in the form described in the book).
