I just want to throw out one little data point to blow up all of Bill's
arguments.

Apple just awarded Steve Jobs something like $780 million in stock options
as bonuses for last year.

How many developers could you hire for $780 million?

I reckon you could maintain EOF on a dozen platforms for many many years.

I'm not buying the cost argument and besides - I only want to use it on
MacOS X.

Apple is being stupid and Ernie is clearly the most clueless product manager
I have ever seen to insist that nobody needs to use a relational database.
99% of all vertical apps are CRUD apps running on relational databases.

If you really want to get out of the adaptor business - publish the source
to the ones you have and just lobby for the db vendors to provide regular C
client libraries like they do for every other platform.

Anyhow, if Apple can toss around $780 million bucks in bonuses to one
person, I'm having a hard time believing the "scarce resources" arguments.
