You seem to be confusing "thinking outside the box" with not wanting to
spend the time to learn what you need to learn, and then blaming your
laziness on the helpful experts that selflessly spend their time
answering questions here. Thinking outside the box is an overused term
even used correctly; your self-righteous attempt to hijack it here is
absolutely pathetic. You are thinking inside a box: a very tiny box,
indeed.
I'm not going to point out the flaws in your reasoning; others have done
so repeatedly with no effect. What I will ask you is: Why do you stick
around since you're obviously so unhappy with Apple, Cocoa and the
members of this list? Why don't you go use VBA or some other development
environment? Perhaps it's because even dumbed-down languages expect you
to have certain knowledge before being able to utilize them effectively,
and you don't seem to want any learning curve at all. Modern development
tools are built on decades of theory and borrow from dozens of previous
languages; if you don't have at least a basic understanding of what lies
underneath, you'll never be able to use the tools effectively.
I don't have a CS degree and have had few difficulties learning Cocoa,
none of which were insurmountable. Of course, I have spent time over the
years teaching myself various languages starting way back with 6502
assembly. The shift to OOP was one of the hardest things I personally
ever faced over those years.
The people on this list have been tremendously helpful, but I've made an
effort, as most of the others on the list have, to research before
asking, and not to expect anything to be handed to us on a silver
platter (although that happens once in a while because people on this
list are so helpful).
Personally, I find it very offensive that you would accuse these people
(who have selflessly helped me and many others) of having a lack of
imagination.
Because it doesn't get said enough: Scott, Erik, John, John, Andreas and
all the others on the list who offer help and advice: THANK YOU. Most of
us appreciate your efforts.
