Sorry, but your hope's vain. Not only it's there, but...

...it's even called NSSplitView! So, had you just try a plain ls on the
AppKit class folder, you should have noticed the "split" you are interested
in.

IB does support it all right. In this case it would be quite sufficient just
having a look to the application menus -- there's one named "Group / Split
View". You could also tried to find the term "split" in the Release Notes,
which are forced upon our throat when IB is launched the first time, and
available later through the Help menu. It's there, "How do I put widgets
inside a split view".

You know, seems to me not only Eric is quite right, but he seriously
underestimates the problem :((((
