The "Home" directory is just how the Finder etc is labelling a particular
directory. It is *not* the name of the directory on the disk.
My home directory is called "cjr" on the disk, for example.

No. A user's home directory is defined by their entry in the system passwd
file, and maybe NetInfo, and maybe other places too. You must use the "~"
notation suggested in this thread to find a particular home directory.
