Hi all,

It been suggested that this is off-topic, so I'll withdraw my question.

It seems that there is strong feeling for Obj-C on this mailing list and that Apple's claims about Java as a first-class citizen in Mac OS X are a bit of a smoke screen (from the URL I have been sent - http://www.bignerdranch.com/Resources/Java.html).

I apologise to those I've offended with my "proprietary" comment - I really meant "not widely used on other platforms".

To me, Obj-C is not really a re-usable skill - there is no call for Mac developers in my home town. So, it looks like I should bite the bullet and learn Cocoa/Obj-C purely as a hobby, or just use C++ and Carbon.

Thanks for your responses.

Darren.
