"Write all your code in our super-special
programming language that is based on a popular one but not
widely used, instead of C++, which sucks but is available
everywhere" does not seem like a smart battle cry for Apple,
eager to move beyond its 5% market share.
I felt exactly like you. I didn't like the idea of Cocoa, or
Objective C or the fact that I'm writing to a limited market.
Looking at the two choices, Carbon (yuck!), and Cocoa (interesting
but relevant?) is depressing to me.
I DID try Carbon events, which is not bad at all. For us "legacy"
programmers, it's the way to go without learning too many new things.
Then I forced myself to learn Cocoa and Obj. C or quit. I decided to
learn it over Christmas break.
I have to say at this point, I LOVE IT!
Obj C. is easy to me now. Cocoa is awesome. IB and Proj. Builder
makes writing simple programs FAST!
It's 95% of the dream system of prototype visually and write only the
code you need.
At this point, I don't have a better environment than this one - and
for the price - amazing!
Now I wish it had more objects in the palette - but I can write those as well!
