Yes, that's just silly on the face of it, if you've ever seen an EMACS user go after it.

Obviously some keystroke commands are a good thing. Nobody
would seriously claim that mousing with an on-screen keyboard
is faster than touch typing. What was new and surprising is
that training users to learn more and more arcane keystroke
commands is not always faster. The research demonstrated that
for most people it becomes slower sooner than they think.

It's a variation of the old "Easy to Learn" versus "Easy to Use" debate.
The experts would argue that beginners just needed to invest the time
to master the arcane key sequences. The best evidence suggests that
this is not true.
