Just taking this as an opportunity to remind everybody that we have

Funny, I would claim that the opposit of that last statement is more
true... :)
and the problems that are evident in today's Help Viewer are being
addressed in pretty rapid succession. Obviously, I can't discuss
details or make promises, but please, do bear in mind that this product
is being attended to.
You keep saying that Jessica... :)
Honestly, don't you think it would be better if you made some smaller
incremental upgrades to Help, rather then continue to keep working on
it (?) in house and make promises? Actions speak louder than words, and
the visible & functional changes to Help during the last 1.5 years are
miniscule.
I think that it is unfortunate that Apple has not been able to provide
neither a working installer, nor a working help system, with the roll
out of Mac OS X - it is a missed opportunity that you cannot easily
reclaim.
Release early, release often!

Help Viewer on X is multi-threaded, but could stand to be more so.
We're working on all of the bullets you mention below, not just the
rendering.

I appreciate your patience; we're definitely we're working on improving
the help system. I also agree that users in need of help will have a
better experience if all apps provide help in the same way.
