Hello All,
I have a few questions here, I hope you do not mind. As a bit of
background, I do Unix and Informix database administration for a small
non-profit agency. I am primarily a systems administrator who does some
programming using Perl, the Informix ACE Reporting language, SQL, Awk,
and shell scripts.
The thing is, Informix is very expensive. Our maintenance agreement is
$10,000 a year and growing. I would like to move our client database off
of Informix and onto either Postgres or MySQL. Time, luckily, is not an
issue and I like learning new things.
So my questions are: since I don't have a C background, so can I use
Project Builder to learn C and Objective-C? I am going through the
O'Reilly book 'Practical C', so can I write and run the examples using
the MacOSX command line? And the $64,000 question: using Cocoa, is it
possible to build a front-end to either database that is multi-user?
Thank you for you time,
Elton
