It's very robust, and scalable -- at WWDC a database was demonstrated
with 1 billion (1,000,000,000) rows. On the basis of a serious
comparative evaluation, some customers have chosen FrontBase over
Oracle.
I'd like to add that we have chosen FrontBase after very careful
evaluation for building a TB database for storing and controlling data
produced by two 1.2m robotic telescopes used by professional
astronomers. As one can imagine, both complexity and volume are really
"astronomical".
We tested several databases (including Oracle, and Informix). In our
opinion, FrontBase could handle data streams produced by the largest
astronomical instruments - something I cannot say for most of the
established market leaders.
The first installation is expected to go life after several months
(nowadays it takes longer to build hardware then the controlling
software - at least if one uses right tools - WebObjects and Cocoa ;-),
and all non-believers are invited to test the product.
