OK... so, like some others, I wasn't happy to read that req. I think
the way it was worked into the posting on the lousy job situation was
pretty scary... but that wasn't Apple's fault.
The WORDING of the req was something that could be misconstrued.
Apparently the wording is poor. And the reaction here was frightening
to boot... combine that with the current employment situation, and I
had to quickly be talked off the ledge...
I'll be the first one to vote for Marketing to have oversight as far as
the wording of job reqs such as these. :-)
However, this doesn't change the fact that this req isn't about working
on compiling Java. Even in its current wording.
_I_f what the position is about is adding features to Obj-C without
loosing ANYTHING that we have now (speed, simplicity of syntax, memory
footprint, etc..) then great.
Pretty much every application that Apple is creating at this point is a
Cocoa application (and in Obj-C too). It's kinda sad that the mindset
of the Apple developer is such that the first assumption is that Apple
would do something stupid that would degrade the experience of all
Cocoa applications (including the Apple ones)
It's not the time to do anything that would undermine the adoption.
That includes poorly worded reqs and over-reaction (guilty BTW) here.
