John,
I have to disagree with you about making this open source. Open source
works great for refining existing technology that has a low user
"wow-factor" (see Mozilla, Linux, etc). This project needs to be taken on
by a commercially-minded group of developers who know, that despite the
nay-sayers, a profit can be made by building an innovative new technology.
Just my 2 cents.
