Actually, HTML help has been around since 8.0 or 8.5. Help Viewer was
just a port of the old application until 10.2, when they decided to
rewrite it in Cocoa because people complained it sucked so much.
Problem is, the Cocoa rewrite sucks too. Oh, well.
Help Viewer sucks doubly, because the content therein is rarely makes
the
app's warts worth dealing with. That's more the case with regular app
help,
not the developer docs, though Help Viewer isn't ideal for that
purpose. Developer
Docs aren't merely Help documents.
I really, really, really dislike the 'ask a question' approach. I want
a full table
of contents, and a decent human-readable index of terms covered, in
addition
to the automated search.
