Two comments regarding the Brushed Metal look...

From the talks I heard at WWDC, I thought that it was correct to use the Textured Window (brushed metal) for programs that interface with hardware and/or for utility packages (ie. ones that provide some access or control of System functions). This would cover the Address Book (the most commented on Textured Window program) since you are edited the user's addresses (now a System function with the Address Book API). General applications and games should not use the interface.

Secondly, has anyone duplicated the appearance of the Textured Window using Quartz commands? Or anything similar? You can not use use a simple metal pattern alone, the appearance seems to fade from one side of window to another. I would love to see the code, to tweak for my own apps. I like the distinctive look of the metal finish. I am working on a family of apps, that would also benefit from having distinctive windows. But alas, I have not explored the advanced Quartz commands like I should have. Has anyone else tried this?

Thank you,

Steve Sheets
