How do know you this?
Rather, you think that Apple has disclosed "all the major features of
Panther."
But for all you "know," Panther could have major features implicated by
the Developer Previews that have not been publicly disclosed.
For example, where is the rumored inclusion of (and likely PATENTED)
"Piles" desktop concept, as recently described by:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/39/30360.html
Shouldn't stuff which Apple publicly discloses be freely discussable
here on this forum?
Not to the extent that this forum is not under NDA. Any yellow
journalist that is on the Microsoft payroll could (and if they had a
clue, would) frame discussion regarding bugs in the Developer Preview
to publicly damage Apple's reputation. Just look at the mud being
thrown at the G5. Serious money is on the line.
Panther will be released soon enough. If you need to discuss it, find
some covert way to do so and then praise Allah for Steve Jobs.
Truly yours,

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I'm sorry to be a wet blanket here, but I'm afraid that it's
necessary to
remind everyone that the WWDC seed and any subsequent developer
releases of
Panther are distributed subject to a non-disclosure agreement. Among
other
things, that NDA prohibits discussion of Panther on this or any other
public
forum.
We can talk about it all you want, as soon as the product ships.
Thanks,

John,
The problem is that Panther is no longer a "secret". It and it's
features
have been much discussed in the news and on the Internet. Apple has
even
filed a patent application for it's "fast switching" technology. That's
hardly trying to keep the lid on something. While Panther is still a
"developer" release, where do you draw the line between what is public
knowledge and publicly available information and what is secret ? I
don't
advocate ignoring the non-disclosure agreements, but Apple has publicly
disclosed all the major features of Panther. Try typing "Panther" to
the
search field on the Apple Developers webpage. There is all kinds of
info
there and you don't need to be a developer to see it. Shouldn't stuff
which
Apple publicly discloses be freely discussable here on this forum ?

anything Apple has disclosed you can talk about. The rest of it is
still under NDA. So it's okay to talk about the fact that fast
switching exists, because Apple's issued a press release about that.
But the details of how it's implemented or the APIs attached to it
are still under NDA. That high level pieces have been disclosed
doesn't remove the NDA from the beta release or internal details.
Those can't be discussed in public forums.
So perhaps the right way to say this isn't "don't talk about panther"
but "you can only talk about those things Apple has already declared
to be exempt from the NDA". so if it's not in an apple press release,
it's still under NDA.
