Hello
what your computer is doing, i assume, is checking the IP against your
/etc/hosts file. This is perfectly normal for unix, and i assume for
other systems as well. if necessary, you could delete the entry, but
there's really no reason to do that. 127.0.0.1 will always go to the
local computer by default.

hi-
Not exactly a cocoa question, but I type one of:
http://127.0.0.1
http://localhost
http:///
in the address field of Safari and it goes to our nameserver computer.
is that the correct behavior or is it a bug?
(I'm using a fresh build of 10.2.4 and the newest Safari).
with IE:
http://localhost
http:///
uses the local computer (as I think it should), but
http://127.0.0.1
goes to the nameserver (I don't understand that)
what is up? How do I get it to use the local computer (localhost) all
the time (without knowing the computer's name)?
