I have a default button, an NSSplitView vertical, and a dual proc machine. Snap, sort of. I decided that the button probably shouldn't be default anyway, so that appears to have solved it.

PS Yes, I filed a bug report. The eventual response was "can't reproduce".

Yes, well, we all know how good Apple is at reproducing bugs after the whole PPP hang episode, don't we? Took a *lot* of prodding to get them to acknowledge it even existed, and nobody could reproduce it in-house. Oh, well.
