I have programmed for a few environments over the years. Dos, Windows,
Novell, Linux and now OS X. Each of these have something to love and
something to hate.
I have used the Microsoft .NET, Microsoft VB, Borland Kylix, Borland
Delphi, Borland C++ Builder, Watcom C, KDevelop and now Project Builder
and Interface Builder. I have just received Metroworks and can not
really comment on that.
What do I love about Interface Builder, Project Builder? It seems to
be a very easy and powerful way of building applications. I like the
way you associate stuff and drag and drop stuff. I would rather spend
time doing real work than on figuring out how to call "CreateWindowEx".
( For those of you lucky not to know what that is, it is how you
manually create a blank window in Windows the hard way ).
What do I hate about Interface Builder/Project Builder? Documentation,
instability, a surprising mix of user friendliness and unfriendliness.
I have had Project Builder crash on me a few times while just editing.
It also at times seem to lose some of the text and you have to page up
and page down to see it again. It also lacks code-completion and
context sensitive help. It's way of organizing projects and files is
amazing but it's CVS integration needs some serious work. You are
never sure what it is busy doing and whether it has finished or not. I
like to have this warm fuzzy feeling about version control, and I do
not get that with Project Builder. It would also be nice if the
merging from Interface Builder into Project Builder could be done
slightly more intelligently. I have worked with tools that has been
better at code generation and merge than Interface builder.
Project Builder and Interface Builder looks like the classical example
of a version 1.0 product. Great concepts but a lot of missing
functionality.
The best environment I have worked with to date is Borland Builder C++
for Windows. Project Builder and Interface Builder has the potential
to be much better, but it will take some time to get there.

today and let that speak for itself. Or better yet how about a
