Whereas windows documentatino (at last the one in the .NET framework or in VS.NET) is really goo. 4 entry point. ALL API function searchable all time (you don't have to compile your project first or other non sense).
you could search through a table of content, a keyword/theme search, an index search or use favorite.
And there is a clever usage of tab.
I long for such an application on Mac !

Go ahead and write it!

Seriously, after following this list for about two years now, I agree with you, that the docs seem to be a seriousd problem for many people. Or is it that the readers of the docs are the actual problem? Ever so many questions asked on this list are completely unnecessary if the poster had just read the docs carefully! Maybe it really is due to better documentation architectures out there which I have never used that "spoil" people.

I myself never had trouble with the documentation. Simply using a web-broswer, you can add bookmarks to any page you desire. But actually, I m a die-hard user of Cocoa Browser, simple yet effective. It is almost never necessary to do a search because everything is where you d expect it. You want a topic-sorted entry point? Try: file:///Developer/Documentation/Cocoa/CocoaTopics.html You do need to search for a given keyword or so? Finders "Find by content" does a good job for that- simply limit the search to your doc folder! Or better even, include the frameworks' headers!

You need examples and detailed descriptions? Ever looked at the ADC site? It has a great number of examples and all the availably documentation... For startup items, I found (first try, second hit, third second of my time): http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/macosx/Essentials/SystemOverview/ BootingLogin/chapter_4_section_12.html

And not to forget to mention Cocoa's strong point: the intention revealing naming conventions. If you have so easy to read method sigantures and class names, the request for fancy search possibilities seems a little odd.
