Personally, I'd expect Apple to at least make a concession to the
fact that some users prefer two buttons, e.g. by making the
different kinds of mice an option so people like me don't have a
perfectly good one-button mouse sitting on a shelf gathering dust.
I think the concession they made for people who like to use 2-button
mice is probably staring you right in the face: it's called the USB
port. You can stick a 2-button mouse in there, if you like.
Not to mention that Apple *could* simply start a revolution by
actually labeling the two mouse buttons with icons. I mean, who is
surprised when people see two buttons that aren't labeled at all and
they think they do the same thing?
This is a good point!! Why aren't there icons on mouse buttons?
Or they could ship a "one button plus wheel" mouse, where the wheel
doubles as the secondary mouse button, like it does on my MacAlly
(though that feature should be off by default, to avoid newbies
accidentally clicking while scrolling because their fingers cramp up
pretty often).
I think there's no really good reason for Apple not to ship
multi-button mice these days, other than it's just part of the Apple
culture to only need one mouse button ... I'd say, in some ways, its
even part of the Apple brand, and we all know how Stevie loves to
foster that!
Lord knows, I know you're not the only Apple geek on the planet with
a one-button mouse sitting on the shelf, doing nothing. I think I'll
use mine to make a Christmas gift for someone ... maybe it'll look
good hanging from my friends rearview mirror in his pimpy car, heh
heh ...
