Im looking to do some freelance programming work, in cocoa and actionScript for a company. I am new to the whole freelance thing, and want to know some 'aboutish' fees that you guys charge. not super professional, just the regular freelance joe. if you know what i mean.

Basic negotiating: try to get the client to name a price, and negotiate from there. You will always have an advantage that way. Who knows, they may name a price that's a lot higher than you were going to ask for. And you can always ask them to come up if you're not willing to work for that price.

The joelonsoftware (http://discuss.fogcreek.com/joelonsoftware/) message boards have a lot of content about software development business issues (including salary/rate negotiations, etc.). There aren't any archives for old discussions, though, so you may need to start a thread there to get feedback.

Good luck!
