If the official archives are not useless, then they're certainly keeping their usefulness very well hidden. I would only consult them as an absolute last resort, after trying mamasam, after searching the developer docs, after looking through all the printed books I have on hand, after searching at Google, and after anything else I could think of. It's kind of surprising, really, given that searching Apple's developer docs works so well these days.
