The official archives are not useless, they are just not nearly as
good as Mamasam. Searching for "splash screen" in the official
archives returns lots of hits. I didn't expect him to know about
Mamasam, that's why I included that link in my reply.
I did however expect him to have tried to search some archive of
Cocoa-Dev before posting. This is not a mailing list for mom and dad,
this is a list for developers and I do expect people on this list to
have a better than average understanding of how mailing lists work.
When I started using Cocoa a few months ago I was very grateful for the
help I got with some basic questions. I had never used one of these
lists before and I certainly didn't know there was such a thing as a
'list archive' that could be searched. You live, you learn. And
that's what this list is about.
A while ago we had a lot of basic C questions coming up and there was
some debate about the level that the list should be aimed at. I think
the list administrator said at the time that this list was definitely
here to support newbies. As I work my way up the learning curve I try
to help out those who are below me on the curve and am thankful for the
help of those above me. Sometimes I get responses that are rude or
patronizing and sometimes I get a thank you off line. I put a lot of
the former down to the fact that it is very, very easy to misinterpret
the emotional tone of an e-mail. The latter responses make it all
worthwhile.
