Why is it metal? Ugly!

But how do you really feel? :)

I knew there are people who hate the metal look, but I had to feel the hailstorm for myself to see how strong the feeling really is. Personally, I think it looks much better, and it helps the Search panel stand out.

I don't like promising features, and I am very stingy about adding prefs, but in this case -- I promise the next release will have a pref to turn off metal.

And I don't like the Foundation/AppKit popup. This needs two clicks or a drag instead of a single click for a radio button.

I know what you mean. I actually try to avoid dragging in my UI. (This is why the old Prefs panel used tables instead of popups for font selection.) I don't even like double-clicking!

In this case, there was a space tradeoff. The quicklist table should be tall to minimize scrolling (i.e., to avoid dragging). I didn't want to give up the space that would be occupied by potentially six radio buttons for Foundation, AppKit, WebKit, ScreenSaver, PreferencePanes, and AddressBook. Most of my quicklist needs are met by the other options, so for me it works as a tradeoff.

Size and dimensions are also why I moved Search into its own panel. It saves space in the quicklist drawer. It lets you view wide search results (like long method names) without widening the drawer, so the drawer can stay narrow. The search results table is also a dynamic list of potentially thousands of items, so it helps to be able to make it as tall as you like; when I am forced to scroll, I like to make it as comfortable as possible.

Everything else is great, though. :)

Thanks! :) I'm happy to discuss further, either on- on off-list, as appropriate.
