Writing an NSStatusItem for *another* app?

  • Subject: Writing an NSStatusItem for *another* app?

I know that my *own* app can have an NSStatusItem attached to it that's only there when my app is open. But can I write an NSStatusItem and attach it to *another* (already-compiled) app, without doing something like having a daemon (or however iKey puts it's up there, that checks every so often if the particular app is open)

The specific application I'm thinking of is a menu in iTunes that would let you know who else is connected to your music library.

Jim
