I have experimented with different installations on different configurations
(5 different machines) and have concluded the following.
iMac 700mhz
B&W G3 400mhz
G4 MDD 2x1ghz
G4 MDD 2x1.42ghz
G5 2x2ghz
While 1.2 does fix some problems of previous versions, it introduces new
problems such as an instability of processing, incompatibility of newly generated
source codes to be used by others who have not updated to 1.2, making it an
undesirable update.
The original 1.0 that is included with server seems to be about the most
stable platform, updating to 1.1 seems to be as stable as well, doing a full
install of 1.1 does not seem to be as stable for some reason as I believe some of
the included core software has minor changes.
For those with fast connections, not including a single file download is
annoying but this is Apple we're speaking of and they have not been known in the
past to do things that would conceivably be considered an intelligent move or a
considerate notion but downloading the individual segments and then using
Disk Utility to join the segments only takes a few moments longer.
