I think it is very difficult to create an interface with Swing/AWT
which will look convincing on OSX, unless the app has a very simple UI.
Another thing to be aware of, is that it's not just the look that won't
be right, the behavior will probably be different to, this will be
especially noticable on document based apps. Also by using Swing/AWT
you won't get all stuff 'for free' like you do with Cocoa i.e. spell
checker, and the integration with the Character Palette doesn't seem
that great with Unicode characters.
I've written a couple of Cocoa/Java apps, and find it much more
pleasant than Java/Swing, if only because I can use Interface Builder.

Hi
I'm currently researching the building of a client application which
really should be cross platform but I don't want to compromise in the
OS X user experience.
I've found a helpful previous post from Bill Bumgarner:
Re: Native Cocoa vs Java performance question
http://lists.apple.com/archives/cocoa-dev/2003/Apr/15/
nativecocoavsjavaperform.txt
... also the following MacNN thread was useful:
http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=186681
I'd like to know if there have been any new developments that would
realistically allow the building of a Java Swing app which uses
sheets, drawers, toolbars etc.
Thanks in advance
Danny
