Apple's opened no door. You found the key hidden in the hollow rock next to the mat. Apple has not been especially shy about changing the lock in the past.
And I consider that a generally bad thing.
Bluntly, tough. If it's not documented, it takes more than the standard allotment of chutzpah to say they're wrong if (stress if, because I don't think it will apply in this case) they decide to take it back.

I'm glad we agree that it's unlikely they'll take it back in this case :).

They put the key there to be found.
They put the key there for their own use. You found it. You are under absolutely no obligation to use it. You choose to do so, and I will not tell you or anyone that you "must not." I just didn't want to let stand unchallenged a recommendation to do something that is, for now, unsupported. It _may_ turn out fine. It may equally turn out to be detrimental to the user base and/or the platform.

The potential benefits of this particular key are significant. I can't let the possibilities go untapped, a great excuse for Apple to pull back changes if ever there was one.
