I don't think they added this ability for their own use. They added it
because, with the advent of WebKit, they have a perfectly good HTML
renderer available to the whole OS, so it is silly for Help Viewer to
have its own proprietary thing that isn't even that good.
HV now has this ability for the same reason Mail, Sherlock, etc. do,
because they are moving all their apps to the WebKit engine. Since
there seems no conceivable reason why Apple should need to go back to a
crappy proprietary engine, I think it's safe to assume this is here to
stay.
