After all the hype, Microsoft will eventually release a

I thought the Mac is ahead of everybody in this area with
spotlight and all...
Linux is catching up but most of the effort is in userspace
metadata databases. Reiser4 is going to take some time to be
accepted. The best way in my opinion is to use structured
files. Essentially database tables that is more like an fs
internally.
