Thanks for the warning! It's good that you point out that people
shouldn't go and try uninstalling all random packages with such
software...

However, I was suggesting using this approach as an easy option to
delete the files that an installer package created by *myself* has
installed - i.e. where I know exactly which files get installed and
that I am not overwriting any system files.

In this context, there currently are two options:

(1) write my own shellscript or specific uninstaller application
(2) use an existing application like DesInstaller that I know has been
tested on several
platforms

Since my approach in (1) would basically mean re-implementing most of
the DesInstaller functionality (i.e. reading my receipt and deleting
those files) I prefer (2).
