someone told me replying to my own messages was a sign of senility... :-)
Anyway, of course MacPAD.app had a slight difference that I thought
I had accounted for. Of course I hadn't, and Andreas Mayer found two
other tiny bugs with some apps that have *very* weird Info.plist
files...
The result is Shovel 0.2.2, so in case you're interested in this,
you may want to download the newer version:

Oh, and in case this isn't clear: By the time I've reached 1.0, I
want you folks to have MacPAD.url files in all your apps :-)
