Truthfully, I've been very disappointed in Apple's seeding process. As a small developer who is paying $500, I feel totally left in the dark regarding seeds, in particular Tiger.

Come on -- I found out about Tiger's upcoming release date from a rumor site. Many developers I've spoken with were caught off-guard by the April 29 release.

And as it is, it looks like the GM is not the last seed we have (reports from people receiving Tiger already say it is 8a428), with no clues as to the differences.

I hold some of the same sentiments. We certainly understand Apple's desire to prevent illegal distribution of major GM versions by those who'd break their NDA. Seeded developers should have received it at least a couple days ahead of the retailers!!! Our monthly/quarterly mailings were previously supplemented with additional mailings of 10.3 and 10.3.5, why not Tiger?!!... so I really feel disregarded by Apple when Joe-blow can order from Amazon or even the Apple Store and have a newer build than I have access to as a developer, which is especially relevant considering recent rdar's I filed. I likely have users running my app on a version of the OS which I can't even test against (unless I'd pre-ordered a retail version also, reducing my ADC benefit). ~Nice. :(

The hardware discount can offset the cost of the membership if you're buying a high-end item (like a G5 tower + monitor), but I don't do that every year.

I'm really questioning the value of the membership these days.
And yes, I'm lodging a complaint with ADC on this.

There are ups and downs from year to year, but altogether the benefits far exceed the expense. As [full-time] developers should at least upgrade our main hardware every-other year if not every year, so 20% off is a healthy discount if saved for strategically-timed purchases. I've budgeted and saved, eagerly awaiting the new Quad 3.0 G5 + Dual 30's, but the recent minor speedbump rumors seemingly confirmed by today's Amazon slip-up have convinced me to forego the investment and take my son to Disney World for a couple weeks instead. I'll be back toward the end of May. ;)
