Agreed 100%. I replied off-list with my own thoughts, but there's positively no need to lambaste. I think a sizable percentage of shareware developers have gone through this at some point. I know I had 'evil thoughts' the first time I saw my hard work raped by some jerk who didn't want to pay. I mean, pirate it for yourself - you're a thief and I hate you. But to pirate it and post the crack online ... that's just evil.

At any rate I suspect it's just more a case of needing a shoulder to cry on, a sympathetic ear. Trust me, Lorenzo, you have it. Just don't go psycho on someone's files. :-)

Geez - give the guy a break. It was obviously "thinking out loud," and maybe it wasn't completely appropriate for this mailing list, but the fact is he immediately saw the logic of the counter- argument and hasn't done anything harmful.

Try to have a little empathy. He felt violated, and went through a period of rash thinking. It's really not helping anything for people to try heaping additional shame onto him, when he's already agreed it was a flawed idea.

But why on earth did you even have to ask? No; I don't want to take the chance that my computer executes code written during one of your "nervous, but fortunately just for a minute" minutes. If nothing else, my attitude might serve as warning of just how easily you can lose business.
