Yes, but I know of at least one company in London that is actively
doing development in Cocoa. However we currently do not have any
positions open. I suspect we will gradually see more and more
companies with active Cocoa projects as more and more executive-

factor, sometimes because their IT departments has demanded all PC
laptops to be replaced with Powerbooks for security reasons (that
is actually happening, although yet on a small scale).
This is not strictly relevant to Cocoa in the UK, but a friend of
mine is the head of a team that works mainly in Cocoa with a sideline
in Perl in Manhattan. He says that *hiring* good Cocoa developers is
difficult: because of the differences between the Java approach and
the Cocoa approach, you can't just hire fresh graduates from a degree
course that teaches them Java. Apparently you need a certain number
of busy-work Java programmers, but a Cocoa developer best suited for
busy-work is dead weight on the team....
As a result, they don't advertise their Cocoa openings, but this
friend is active in the local Cocoa and NeXT and Perl development
communities, and basically finds all of his hires through networking
once he's had a chance to see that they have a brain and that they
can both design and code in a different setting. It wouldn't
surprise me if this is a more widespread practice.
