Oh I agree, that is what I had intended. But unfortunately that is not the way our Windows version works. There argument against this is that the teachers who use this, would not be able to locate the files after they are checked out if we put them in a different spot from the Application. So since I really need this paycheck I did not push very hard on it. If there are problems, it will be the decision makers fault not mine. I know that is not a very good attitude, but I have to fight all the time, to change the way this app works so it does not act like Windows app. I hope in our re-write next year that we can change this from the ground up.

This functionality will only work if the Application bundle is in a volume/directory that they do have privileges for. It allows teachers to checkout files from there server to take home, like on there Laptop to do work on.
Better would be ~/Desktop or ~/Documents, perhaps as a default for a user-configurable location.
