If you were evaluating whether or not Objective-C or Java would be better for a certain task and you didn't even know Java, I would say you're not even in a position to make that call anyway. Besides, learning a new language isn't that big of a deal. Knowledge is power. You may just find you like Java better, or you may not. At least you will know and then be in a better position to decide which language should be used. It's never a bad thing to know more.
