Hi Scott,
that was an interesting read, thanks.
Im a bit at a loss if that data is true, we have a Update call that the
app uses to check its version against the latest, the current stats
seem to be showing that only about 50% of downloaders are actually
starting the program.
The seems to be too high to be just people who d/c from the internet
immediately.
In the absence of any other information we have decided that maybe they
are 10.2 users, an OS that we didn't target initially.
<g> AFAICS its either that or some windows users are facing
disappointment.
Hence the cross compilation.
Is anyone out there able to help with maybe 20 mins of their time?
Just an attempt to start the application and, assuming it fails, to
send us the console logs would be very useful.
Yours cheerfully,
Andrew Bush

It does pay to know who your market is, and what they are likely to

Have you looked at:
<http://update.omnigroup.com>, most users are running 10.4 with a
small percentage 10.3, 10.2 users are like .8% of the market share...
Do keep in mind, though, what Omni sells - Graffle, OmniWeb, and
Outliner seem to be the main products. Graffle seems to be primarily
used by IT, science, and management types, while users of alternative,
for pay, browsers also seem to be primarily web designers and cutting
edge types. Outliner seems to be used across the user base.
The graffle and OmniWeb markets are, I believe, more likely to be
using the latest and best. At the least, among my clients, it is
likely to be an accountant, secretary, bookkeeper, lab tech, or tech
writer who is using an older machine with an older OS.
For what it is worth, Omni's results very closely match my own
customers. I can target Tiger, Java 1.5, and a fast G4 or G5, and
usually not get any pushback. Were I writing a game, say, or
something targeted at teens, I would have a different target market.
Scott
