I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but this is definitely not
always the case. While we could argue the merits of headed and
headless server apps for weeks or months, there are server apps out
there that are inherently tied to a single GUI. The last five
commercial online games I've worked on have had at least one portion
of the server itself directly tied to a GUI. The ability to see
realtime stats on games as they're played is very important to
accountants and those performing security audits. That said, most of
my experience has been with online casino systems. I assume that if
you're building something like a FPS game server, or something just
for fun, it probably wouldn't be as important.
