There are two lists that host Cocoa discussions. This one, and a
second run by a third party (www.omnigroup.com). The Omni list is a
bit more general in that it isn't just Cocoa discussion, but Mac
development discussion in general.
As a moderator I can say that all levels of experience are welcome
on this list.
Here are some general hints for both newbies and old-timers.
- do make an attempt to find the answer in the existing
documentation before posting
- if you find an answer and it isn't clear then feel free to post
to the list (and file feedback on the doc!)
- remember to check the list archives, there are many questions that
have been asked before
- try and be as precise as possible in asking your question, and a
good subject title is a must
- this list is not an official Apple support channel
- Apple engineers often read the list and are willing to help, but
it is largely on their own time (see also: not an official Apple
support channel)
- this list is not an official way to file bugs or feature enhancements
- Please use bugreporter.apple.com to file bugs or enhancement
requests
- You can also file documentation feedback from the links at the
bottom of every documentation page
- filing bugs is hugely important
- please act in a professional manner and treat others with respect.
This is typically not a major issue here, but it has come up.
If you're just getting started I'd __STRONGLY__ recommend reading the
Cocoa Fundamentals Guide
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/
CocoaFundamentals/index.html
It'll point you in the right direction and guide you through the
other documentation. Documentation is updated and expanded on a
regular basis (about every 5-6 weeks) and Xcode can tell you when the
new documentation is available for download to your local machine.
