Wrong. GUI does not equal to Finder. You need to go lower, so as, for example, those who use PathFinder or RBrowser aren't SOL.


You seem forgetting that Finder is a file manager, not the file manager.

Actually, Microsoft's system allows for third-party Explorers which can use their extensions. It's much more flexible than Apple's way, and it's extensible too. Have you looked into it?
(For example, a coworker of mine has written an entire Explorer replacement for himself, and extensions like TortoiseSVN can still work inside it.)
I don't like the built-in Explorer at all, but for customizability, the Microsoft way is currently unparalleled.
