IF you spent $$ developing the graphics and someone else 'borrowed'

your work, do you think they could be in trouble if you, the owner of
such materials, would decide to chase them?

In theory, yes. In practice, I'm not sure it'd be worth much for small images like these to sue for damages, and since such graphics probably cost licensing fees around $20 or so, the court would probably strike it down for being too small a value to sue for, or so? I'm not a lawyer, and I don't know the exact English terminology here, but I'd guess that's what would happen.

Another check may be to go into the app's box, and see if there's
some sort of copyright. Statements like "Copyright ©XXXX Some
Company, Inc., All Rights Reserved." should be some sort of warning.

Well, the about box in an Xcode project has a copyright string by default, so this isn't really a good indicator. Not to mention that it doesn't have to say something is copyright for it to be subject to copyright. A couple decades ago it was decided that *everything* is under copyright unless the creator explicitly states otherwise.

But then again, I am not a lawyer. I would encourage you to hire a
lawyer to review the acceptable use policies. This may be useful in
case you get sued, and need to retain such lawyer to help you with
the litigation. From your question, I would think you may want to
retain them so you are not surprised and discomforted later when the
the cease and desist notice arrives at your mailbox.

Great suggestion. More info on this and suggestions for good lawyers can probably be obtained on the macSB mailing list at Yahoo Groups.
