hm, i wonder if it is patented.
Whether or not something is patented is off topic for the list,
It may not be off-topic, because it can directly influence weather

implemented.
but it may also create legal problems for those of us who read the
list if (by some chance) one of us ends up in court for infringing
a patent that gets mentioned here. (e.g. in the U.S. a lawyer
might use the list archives to argue that the defendant was aware
of the patent when they infringed it, which would trigger the
triple damages rule...)
So *please* don't post any information about patents here.
All right, since the damage has already be done, let me just post a
link to obvious prior art. Since you can not patent a computer
representation of an existing physical object, it should be safe to
create another user interface that has scrolling images of items on
the top, textual descriptions below and also takes user's money for
one click purchase of new items. US lawyers should make sure nobody
in their company had access to this mailing list, otherwise they are
willingly filing a lawsuit without merit and defendant may be
entitled to triple damages or worse :-)
Practically though, the original poster might want to review publicly
available materials about Leopard and sign up for ADC membership to
make sure his application doesn't look out of place in the next OS
release. Such a functionality can achieved in Tiger with Core Image
or OpenGL, but it may not be worth the effort to maintain separate
code bases for Leopard (where you would want to use any available
system support for consistent L&F with other apps) and Tiger.
