If you're using Core Data, try doing [managedObjectContext processPendingChanges] after the drop is completed.

I tried that one [myTable reloadData] as well, that still does not
refresh the table if app's window is not in the foreground.
The table does seem to have/know about the dropped item because as
soon as the window is clicked on to bring it to the foreground the
dropped item is displayed.
