Does this extension-less file have an HFS type?
Nope. It has no extension or HFS type. Which makes me totally
understand why the UTI says it's plain.data, but it drives me nuts
that Spotlight knows and says it's plain text.
"Plain Text" seems to be the Finder's catch all. Try this: 'touch /
foo', then Get Info on that file. It's "Plain Text".
Interestingly, I have files containing oodles of binary which are also
marked as Plain text. I guess Spotlight has some identity issues.

Alright, well at least now I know it's not just me. Thanks.
